When you open an account at Eastex Credit Union, you receive a share of ownership which means you automatically become an investor as well as a member. Every member owns one share of ownership, no matter the size of your account. This means you have a vote in the decisions made including the election of members that serve on the Board of Directors. The board is made up entirely of volunteer members- just like you- that truly care about the success of our credit union and the real financial issues that our members face.

We’re not-for-profit.

Credit unions are not-for-profit institutions which means any profits we make are given back to our owners (aka: our members) in the form of dividends, discounted loan rates, higher interest on deposits, lower fees and other benefits. Credit unions exist to serve their members and they only exist because of their members. Unlike banks, we do not issue stock or pay dividends to any outside shareholders.

We serve our community.

Credit unions are unique in that you must meet certain criteria to join instead of being open to the general public. Oftentimes, it’s just that you live, work or worship in their specific area. This means that credit unions can tailor their products and services to the needs of our local community. At Eastex, anyone that lives, works or worships in Hardin, Jasper or Newton County is eligible for membership. The overarching social purpose of credit unions is “people helping people”. We exist to help our members not to make a profit. We are dedicated to educating our members on financial services so that they can make informed decisions on how they handle their money.
