This month, we’re giving thanks and gratitude to the members who embody Eastex Credit Union. We’re reflecting upon the unique dynamic that credit unions share with the community members who live, work, or worship in an eligible county. At Eastex Credit Union, we put people over profits and consistently strive to give back to our members and the community. Here are some ways that credit unions set themselves apart from traditional big banks.

Credit Unions Are Not-For-Profit

Credit unions differ from traditional banks in the way they operate and invest earnings back into the community. This can look like reduced fees, higher savings yields, lower loan rates, and dividends back to the member. Even though credit unions offer the same products and services as banks, credit unions are not-for-profit and take pride in distributing dividends back to the members. Simply put, credit unions like Eastex Credit Union operate to promote the financial well-being of the members.

Credit Unions Are Member-Owned

Credit unions are owned and controlled by the members who use the credit union services. They are often members of the community and can sit on the volunteer board of directors, who are elected by members to manage the credit union.

Credit Unions Invest in Their Communities

At Eastex Credit Union, we understand the importance of community. We are actively involved in various areas of the community and pride ourselves on partnering with local vendors when offering products and services tailored to your needs! We also actively engage with our community members to instill financial literacy, such as our involvement with Kirbyville High School. Credit Unions Work Together

Credit unions put people first all across America. Eastex Credit Union is a cooperative shared network, which means that means of a participating credit union can continue their banking at any credit union in the network. This can be especially helpful to members who need to access their accounts when they are traveling or away from a credit union location. Together, credit unions in the Shared Branch Network represent more than 5,000 branch locations in the US. There is strength in numbers as credit unions continue to evolve in helping one another by offering services such as Shared Branching.
